| History
“Living
Local with the Baraquios” started out as
a fun idea conceived by former TV news anchor/reporter
Bernadette Baraquio. She wanted to create a TV
show that highlighted only GOOD news, inspirational
stories, and informative factoids about her hometown
… but most importantly, a show that included
her sisters and friends.
Baraquio teamed up with the late and great TV Veteran Faye Mahealani Jones, who was instrumental in creating the show logo and overall artistry and flow. While she is truly missed on this earth, her legacy continues to live on through the spirit of LIVING LOCAL.
After pitching the idea to OC16 executives
in February 2004, the show literally took off
on its own, debuting shortly thereafter on April
25, 2004. It aired on a Sunday night at 9pm on
Hawaii’s Time Warner Cable Station OC16. The
pilot series consisted of four original episodes,
featuring notable greats such as Hawaii Governor
Linda Lingle, Hawaii’s Ambassador of Aloha,
Danny Kaleikini and Hawaii’s number one
TV Weather Anchor, Trini Kaopuiki.
By
the summer of ‘04, the show was given the
green light to produce a brand new season of 13
episodes for the Fall season. Original episodes were hosted by Angela, Bernadette, Gloria, Rose and Tess Baraquio. Since then, the five-sister cast has been reduced to two, although the others continue to make cameo appearances when their schedules permit!
LIVING LOCAL is now in its 6th year on the air and will premiere Sundays at 5:30pm on KHON this Spring.Syndication runs will also be seen on Coastal TV Network in California.
Since
its inception, the program has expanded to include
special musical performances from island celebrities ranging from
The Brothers Cazimero, Makana, Melveen Leed, Amy Hanaiali'i and Tia Carrere. It has also featured popular entertainment
figures like Andy Bumatai, Frank Delima and Hawaii's favorite comedians, Da Braddahs.
The
most endearing aspect about the show is experiencing
the interaction between the sisters and feeling
the powerful undertones of what it means to be
“Ohana.” With high-production value
by some of Hawaii’s leading videographers,
editors and journalists, “Living Local with
the Baraquios” is a high-quality production that stays true to its motto of "Making Good Television."
“Living
Local with the Baraquios” is in production
for a brand new spring season in March 2010..
(Premiere episode set for March 28, 2010.)
Stay tuned for an
outstanding presentation that’s sure to
showcase the best of Hawaii stories, fashion, entertainment, and its people!
Background
While
other programs may also extol the virtues of Hawaii
scenes and its people, “Living Local with
the Baraquios” takes a more informative
and realistic approach to the local perspective.
As local kids born and raised on Oahu, the Baraquio
sisters are all about Ohana. Viewers get a glimpse
of family dynamics as well as an inside look at
the islands' different cultures. Long-time residents
