ABOUT THE SHOW
History
“Living Local with the Baraquios” started out as a fun idea conceived by former TV news anchor/reporter Bernadette Baraquio. She wanted to create a TV show that highlighted only GOOD news, inspirational stories, and informative factoids about her hometown … beautiful Hawaii...
Baraquio teamed up with her sisters and the best of industry professionals, including the late and great TV veteran Faye Mahealani Jones, and talented director and post-production editor, Sherrie White, to create the magazine format.
The show debuted on April 25, 2004, Sunday night at 9pm on Hawaii’s Time Warner Cable Station OC16.
The pilot series consisted of four original episodes, featuring notable greats such as Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle, Hawaii’s Ambassador of Aloha, Danny Kaleikini and TV Weather Anchor, Trini Kaopuiki.
By the summer of ‘04, the show was given the green light to produce a brand new season of 13 episodes for the Fall season. Original episodes were hosted by Angela, Bernadette, Gloria, Rose and Tess Baraquio.
LIVING LOCAL is in its9th year on the air. During the Spring 2010 season, it aired a 13-week run on KHON2, Sundays at 5:30pm. Now the show can be seen on Sundays at 9:30pm on KFVE the Home Team.
Since its inception, the program has expanded to include special musical performances from island celebrities ranging from The Brothers Cazimero, Makana, Melveen Leed, Amy Hanaiali'i and Tia Carrere. It has also featured popular entertainment figures like Andy Bumatai, Frank Delima and Hawaii's favorite comedians, Da Braddahs.
The most endearing aspect about the show is experiencing the interaction between the sisters and feeling the powerful undertones of what it means to be “Ohana.” With stellar production talent by some of Hawaii’s leading videographers, editors and journalists, “Living Local with the Baraquios” is a high-quality production that stays true to its motto of "Making Good Television."
Stay tuned for the best of Hawaii stories, fashion, entertainment, and its people!
